Hertfordshire County Council (HCC)

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) provide services to a population of over one million throughout Hertfordshire and they employ around 37,000 staff. They recognised the need to provide Business as Usual training in standard IT Desktop provision to their staff. Building on the success of Afiniti’s training support of their Transformation project, Afiniti were approached to offer a solution for the Business as Usual requirement. As their IT provision is outsourced to Serco, this was a dual contract with Serco as contractual client and HCC as user client.

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) ITIL

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) provide services to a population of over one million throughout Hertfordshire and they employ around 37,000 staff. HCC decided to restructure their ISIT department in line with the ITIL3 framework to ensure they continue to provide effective and efficient technology services. Afiniti was approached to assist with the implementation of ITIL3.

Owing to the rapid growth of the company over the last few years, unmanaged mailboxes have quickly reached enormous sizes, leading to significant Exchange Server problems.

Our client is the largest home improvement and garden centre retailer in the UK and Europe, employing over 34,000 staff. They encourage continuous staff development through a blend of learning incentives and accreditation routes, particularly through end user IT training events. To keep training inline with business requirements we were asked to develop a tailored range of courses that would match delegates’ needs to the objectives of the business.

Whitbread Desktop Refresh

Whitbread took the strategic decision to update from Office 2000 and Lotus Notes 6.0 to Office 2007 and Lotus Notes 8.5, as well as moving to a thin client environment. They also introduced new methods for remote access via VPN and “Work Anywhere”. Afiniti were commissioned to provide training and user documentation to support this successful rollout.

Eurojust PRINCE2

Eurojust was set up by the Council of the European Union in February 2002 to improve the fight against serious crime by co-ordinating investigations and prosecutions crossing member state boundaries with full respect for fundamental rights and freedoms.

Hiscox Methodology Training

Hiscox Insurance identified a need to overhaul their approach to project management, aligning to corporate strategy and programme management. Afiniti adopted a 3D (“Disciplined, De-Risk, Dependable”) methodology tailored to Hiscox’s culture, size and ethos to provide company-wide visibility of progress against strategic objectives.

Hiscox need to respond to rapid changes in their marketplace to remain competitive. To improve the management of change in the organisation the Hiscox Project Management Apprentice was designed and created by Afiniti. This initiative develops project management skills for staff working as part of project and change teams.

Hiscox Openbox

Hiscox Insurance is a world leader in high-end, specialist insurance products, underwriting personal and business risks, with offices across 12 countries. Afiniti were commissioned to provide the user training programme to support the implementation of a new and bespoke underwriting system, OpenBox+, designed to optimise the booking of new business and maintenance of existing clients.

Network Rail Computer Refresh

With over 20,000 IT users, Network Rail have to ensure that their hardware remains up to date and proficient in supporting both bespoke and standard applications. It is essential that older hardware is continuously refreshed. Afiniti managed the refresh programme of older models of desktops and laptops in the estate. A major element of this project was understanding user requirements and capturing quality asset data.

Channel Tunnel Rail Link

In 2009 Network Rail transitioned the maintenance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in-house from Carillion. Afiniti were commissioned to provide support for a number of the Information Management activities associated with this transition to include hardware build and configuration, the provision of user briefings and training and post-transition support.

Network Rail RDMS

The introduction of a successful Rail Defects Management System (RDMS) is a landmark within Network Rail. The project is safety-critical and requires all information regarding suspected and actual defects, inspection and remediation information to be held together in one application. Afiniti were asked to engage end users through roadshows and to provide training and support for the new system, tailoring the training depending on user role.

Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren is a world leader in the design, marketing and distribution of premium clothing, home, accessories and fragrances products. The organisation wished to optimise the use of spreadsheets by planners and buyers to improve business efficiency. Afiniti designed and delivered customised Excel training and consultancy to facilitate this process and employed Kirkpatrick Level 3 evaluation to verify the benefits realisation and return on investment.

Remploy Veriti

Remploy provide support services and manufacture products with a view to assisting disabled people into work. They have 10,000 staff across 100 locations. Remploy were running a legacy NT system and asked Afiniti to provide assistance with infrastructure design for Active Directory, Exchange and XP desktop

Europol

Europol is the European Law Enforcement Agency which aims at improving the effectiveness and co–operation of the competent authorities in the Member States in preventing and combating terrorism, unlawful drug trafficking and other serious forms of organised crime.
Europol undertook the ECD Programme to manage the implementation of changes to administrative rules and procedures in order to comply with the EU Financial and Staff legislation. Afiniti were commissioned to enhance the programme delivery by establishing best practices in programme and project management within the project team.

Garwyn ClaimFlo

A leading UK specialist insurance claims adjuster with offices around the UK and Ireland.

The client were replacing their existing claims legacy system with a modern ‘Windows’ style application and converting the current data to enable seamless continuation of daily business. As the existing system had been in place for many years, it meant managing the transition to help staff appreciate the benefits of a change in working practices.

Network Rail Printer Refresh

Network Rail’s printer and copier estate comprised a raft of different makes, models and lease agreements leading to inconsistent service and performance for users. Network Rail asked Afiniti to implement an organisation-wide programme to audit their printer and copier estate and upgrade sites to a common and multi-function set of devices.

Thomson Reuters were upgrading all staff from Microsoft Office 2003 to Office 2007 as part of a global transformation programme. Afiniti were commissioned to develop supporting learning and communication modules to help prepare and inform the user community of the changes, including the key features of the new software to get them up-and-running quickly and easily.

The IDM implemented a new design for their website content managed system in order to attract more customers, improve the presentation of services and products, and introduce a new and simplified site search facility.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) PRINCE2

IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Its key roles contribute to international peace and security, and to the World's Millennium Goals for social, economic and environmental development.
Afiniti managed and delivered a training and accreditation programme for project staff through the PRINCE2 Project Management methodology to develop a critical mass of project staff trained in the method to ensure it became fully embedded in the organisation.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) GAP analysis

The IAEA operates the Safeguards Analytical Laboratory (SAL) on the campus of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Seibersdorf, Austria. SAL consists of a Nuclear Material Laboratory (NML) housed in space rented from the AIT and a Clean Laboratory which is part of the IAEA’s Owned Laboratories on a separate part of the site. IAEA were designing and constructing a new NML and approached Afiniti to provide best practice guidance and support in the project management of this critical strategic programme.

University of Hertfordshire Desktop Training

The University of Hertfordshire (UH) employs over 2,000 staff in a wide range of both academic and business support roles. The ability of staff to be productive and effective with desktop IT applications is important for all organisational teams. UH chose to up-skills staff to MS Office 2007 in line with their desktop refresh programme. UH appointed Afiniti as their preferred supplier for desktop IT training for staff in 2007.
